© Reuters. U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.73%
Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Consumer Goods and Industrials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.73% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.35%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.58%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which rose 8.08% or 3.22 points to trade at 43.06 at the close. Meanwhile, Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) added 7.34% or 16.44 points to end at 240.29 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) was up 2.30% or 1.15 points to 51.05 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG), which fell 0.86% or 1.19 points to trade at 137.17 at the close. Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) declined 0.75% or 2.03 points to end at 269.07 and Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) was down 0.59% or 0.89 points to 149.63.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NYSE:NCLH) which rose 9.70% to 25.67, Ralph Lauren Corp Class A (NYSE:RL) which was up 9.74% to settle at 97.58 and Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) which gained 9.74% to close at 23.22.
The worst performers were Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation (NYSE:COG) which was down 5.60% to 16.09 in late trade, Kroger Company (NYSE:KR) which lost 4.37% to settle at 30.88 and International Paper Company (NYSE:IP) which was down 3.13% to 48.30 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Ever-Glory International Group Inc (NASDAQ:EVK) which rose 183.33% to 5.950, Lizhi Inc (NASDAQ:LIZI) which was up 147.88% to settle at 5.85 and Transglobe Energy Corp (NASDAQ:TGA) which gained 41.96% to close at 0.724.
The worst performers were Splunk Inc (NASDAQ:SPLK) which was down 22.00% to 160.61 in late trade, Lands’ End Inc (NASDAQ:LE) which lost 16.66% to settle at 20.89 and Dada Nexus Ltd (NASDAQ:DADA) which was down 14.14% to 46.02 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2078 to 845 and 94 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1775 rose and 1017 declined, while 81 ended unchanged.
Shares in Ever-Glory International Group Inc (NASDAQ:EVK) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 183.33% or 3.850 to 5.950.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.57% to 21.05.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.72% or 13.15 to $1843.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.04% or 0.47 to hit $45.75 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.20% or 0.58 to trade at $48.83 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.26% to 1.2146, while USD/JPY fell 0.44% to 103.94.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.46% at 90.692.
