India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.06%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, IT and Power sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.06%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.17%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC), which rose 5.28% or 36.10 points to trade at 719.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) added 4.81% or 12.45 points to end at 271.50 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) was up 3.59% or 18.85 points to 544.15 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST), which fell 2.04% or 378.25 points to trade at 18137.00 at the close. HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) declined 1.88% or 13.50 points to end at 705.55 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) was down 1.83% or 44.30 points to 2373.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 3.60% to 544.50, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was up 3.21% to settle at 952.00 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which gained 2.37% to close at 670.00.

The worst performers were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 1.97% to 2369.50 in late trade, Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which lost 1.92% to settle at 1544.00 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was down 1.89% to 18160.00 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1073 to 587 and 60 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1891 rose and 1055 declined, while 144 ended unchanged.

Shares in Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 5.28% or 36.10 to 719.90. Shares in Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) rose to 52-week highs; up 4.81% or 12.45 to 271.50.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.81% to 20.6150.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.30% or 5.75 to $1914.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.61% or 0.31 to hit $50.94 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.26% or 0.14 to trade at $54.44 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.34% to 73.365, while EUR/INR fell 0.24% to 89.9020.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.41% at 89.868.
