Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Public Sector Undertakings, Capital Goods and Oil & Gas sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.33% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.34%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which rose 5.94% or 5.75 points to trade at 102.55 at the close. Meanwhile, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) added 4.28% or 51.10 points to end at 1245.40 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was up 4.11% or 31.05 points to 786.90 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which fell 2.52% or 62.20 points to trade at 2408.60 at the close. Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) declined 2.24% or 71.30 points to end at 3114.00 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) was down 2.03% or 14.80 points to 712.75.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which rose 4.91% to 101.55, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was up 4.24% to settle at 1245.00 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 2.16% to close at 526.35.

The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 1.98% to 712.95 in late trade, Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which lost 1.17% to settle at 3288.10 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 1.14% to 908.55 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1072 to 614 and 52 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1838 rose and 1073 declined, while 165 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.26% to 19.4025.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.96% or 17.75 to $1825.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.88% or 0.41 to hit $46.98 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.96% or 0.48 to trade at $50.45 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.25% to 73.551, while EUR/INR rose 0.07% to 89.3685.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.44% at 90.523.
