Investing.com – Germany stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Retail, Consumer & Cyclical and Chemicals sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 0.45%, while the MDAX index fell 0.20%, and the TecDAX index declined 0.64%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were MTU Aero Engines NA O.N. (DE:MTXGn), which rose 1.77% or 3.60 points to trade at 207.30 at the close. Meanwhile, RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) added 1.60% or 0.550 points to end at 34.965 and E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) was up 1.10% or 0.099 points to 9.105 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG), which fell 2.32% or 2.77 points to trade at 116.43 at the close. Linde PLC (DE:LINI) declined 1.95% or 4.200 points to end at 210.700 and Bayer AG NA (DE:BAYGN) was down 1.93% or 0.94 points to 47.78.

The top performers on the MDAX were Airbus Group SE (DE:AIRG) which rose 2.55% to 91.71, Fraport AG (DE:FRAG) which was up 2.14% to settle at 49.790 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) which gained 1.59% to close at 5.488.

The worst performers were Metro Wholesale & Food Specialist AG (DE:B4B) which was down 3.39% to 7.5700 in late trade, Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) which lost 3.14% to settle at 66.580 and TeamViewer AG (DE:TMV) which was down 2.66% to 38.43 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were United Internet AG NA (DE:UTDI) which rose 0.75% to 33.430, Varta AG (DE:VAR1) which was up 0.36% to settle at 110.900 and Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which gained 0.20% to close at 124.200.

The worst performers were Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which was down 6.38% to 18.640 in late trade, TeamViewer AG (DE:TMV) which lost 2.66% to settle at 38.43 and Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) which was down 2.65% to 62.500 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 418 to 244 and 36 ended unchanged.

Shares in Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 0.20% or 0.250 to 124.200.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 0.43% to 23.49.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.59% or 10.65 to $1829.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.75% or 0.78 to hit $45.33 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.46% or 0.69 to trade at $48.11 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.13% to 1.2086, while EUR/GBP rose 0.79% to 0.9066.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 91.215.
