Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the IT, Industrials and Materials sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 1.49%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Credit Corp Group Ltd (ASX:CCP), which rose 8.83% or 2.60 points to trade at 32.06 at the close. Meanwhile, Tabcorp Holdings Ltd (ASX:TAH) added 8.78% or 0.360 points to end at 4.460 and Afterpay Touch Group Ltd (ASX:APT) was up 7.91% or 10.75 points to 146.62 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Unibail Rodamco Westfield (ASX:URW), which fell 7.07% or 0.39 points to trade at 5.13 at the close. Blackmores Ltd (ASX:BKL) declined 3.80% or 3.04 points to end at 76.89 and A2 Milk Company Ltd (ASX:A2M) was down 3.15% or 0.34 points to 10.45.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 814 to 546 and 325 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 0.77% to 15.915.

Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.62% or 11.55 to $1852.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.99% or 0.53 to hit $54.08 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.89% or 0.50 to trade at $56.83 a barrel.

AUD/USD was down 0.05% to 0.7615, while AUD/JPY rose 0.01% to 79.94.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 90.938.
